  • Q: I am very afraid of the dentist and have trouble getting work done, can Dr. Cooney help me with that?
    • Dr. Cooney offers a variety of ways for you to feel at ease during your dental care, including medicines to make you feel at ease. He has helped countless people with their fears and can help you with yours.
  • Q: I am switching dentists in the middle of treatment, is that ok?
    • Sometimes yes, sometimes, no. It all depends on the kind of treatment you are having, how extensive it is, and Dr. Cooney’s determination of your best intersts. If no problems are forseen, Dr. Cooney will be happy to pick up where your previous dentist left off.
  • Q: Will my teeth look natural after treatment is complete?
    • The materials we have avaiable in this modern age are only a part of what makes your teeth look natural when finished. The behind-the-scenes work that Dr. Cooney does to prepare for your appointment determines a lot about how the teeth look when they are finished. Natural looking teeth are the goal and that goal is accomplished so well that even Dr. Cooney has to do a double take on occasion.
  • Q: How long will my fillings and crowns last?
    • Nothing lasts forever and each filling, crown, and denture will alst differing amounts of time before they show their age and require replacement. Ask Dr. Cooney about your specific situation and he wil give you longevity based on research. As always, the more you take care of something and the more frequently Dr. Cooney can keep an eye on it, the longer it will last.
  • Q: I have gum disease. Why do I need my teeth cleaned more often and why are there costs?
    • Gum disease is incurable. You have more frequent cleanings to remove the build-up while your gums heal. If you floss and brush as we’ve taught, these more frequent cleanings will only last until you’ve healed. Your insurance company determines the charges, if any, for your cleanings. Most insurance companies have decided that these frequent cleanings should have a small fee.
  • Q: Dr. Cooney says I have XYZ issues but I see the dentist every six months. How can this be?
    • Dr. Cooney makes treatment recommendations based on what he sees at the time of your examination appointment. Your body is unpredictable and can undergo a lot of changes in six months. Dr. Cooney will be happy to ease your concerns about your teeth and answer any questions you may have about your teeth and dental needs.
  • Q: Does Dr. Cooney see children?
    • Dr. Cooney sees children 13 and older. As our office is set up to treat adult patients, children under 13 are encouraged to see a pediatric dentist. Dr. Cooney has several that he refers to in the St. Louis area and will be happy to provide you with those names.
